Who am I? Hello, my name is Maggie Metten! I grew up in Dallas, Texas, attended the University of Oklahoma, and graduated in 2022. I studied Public Relations with a minor in Digital Marketing. I worked at HRNCIR Construction as a Marketing Intern over the summer of 2022 and in the Summer of 2021, and now am currently working as the Director of Public Relations at Mary Kay in Dallas, Texas. I have enjoyed taking charge of PR in the beauty and makeup industry and have loved challenging Mary Kay as a whole with its PR approach.
Since I have been in the field of PR for quite some time now and have worked my way up, I would say my favorite thing has to be the relationships I have made. It's essential to have a team of PR professionals who respect you and have different opinions and thoughts than you do. That is very beneficial for the company or agency you may be working with, and it opens up new mindsets and perspectives that you or anyone else may not have thought of. I also have enjoyed finally participating in PR in an industry and field that I enjoy and am passionate about. I have always wanted to get into the beauty industry, and now that I am not only writing and making media but doing it for a company that interests me and is passionate about it. This leads me to why I studied PR because I love to write, but I am a big people person who loves making new relationships and communicating about how we can reach our target audience. Not to mention that I highly enjoy writing. Something that motivates me about PR is that the field is multiplying, and agencies and companies are becoming more dependent on PR. This shows that more and more of these companies are changing how they get their message across. Something that helps strengthen my communication skills is my love for volunteering. During my free time, I volunteer for Feed My Starving Children in Dallas, TX, and at Brother Bills helping Hand in Dallas, Texas. These have helped me shape the person that I am today, along with strengthening my passion for communication.
