Targeting OU Freshman

There are many ways that members of the OU can target incoming OU freshmen. We want to get the OU freshman's attention and tell them they will attend the right place. In what ways would we target this specific audience? Let's look at our audience:


- 17-18 years of age and submitted their ACT/SAT

- Parents aren't alumni but are familiar with OU

- Middle-class household income

- Male and Female

- Over a 3.0 GPA in Highschool

-Public and Private High Schools

-Going to be Freshman in college.


This would be how I would define my stakeholders. I would make sure to include a lot of detail but also be generic and broad. The more information we have about our stakeholders, the easier and more efficient it is to target them. I also think it is essential to try and understand your stakeholder to their fullest because then you have a better chance of making sure your message gets across to the target audience accordingly.


I think it is essential to be able to identify your target stakeholder because you will be able to convey your message to the right audience. You will also learn how to convey your message to the target audience. For example, looking at their age, are they into social media, and if so, which platform are they more active on. These details will help adjust your message according to the stakeholder, so it is crucial to research your stakeholder.


There are many ways to target your message accordingly, but once you have identified your stakeholder and researched their gender, age, likes, and dislikes. Any other important information, you base it off of that. As I explained above, if your stakeholder, for example, took honors classes in high school and had an outstanding GPA, you would convey the message according to that. In this instance, if I were trying to have this individual come to OU, I would mention that OU had excelled in its honors program and encourage the individual to apply. This would not only attract their attention, but it would make the message feel more personal.
